Dirty South Regional: New River

This is simply a gathering of riverboarders in the Southeast with some friendly competition thrown in.

We are keeping this on the down low and calling it a gathering instead of a competition for reasons that the put in and take out are on park land.

Friday the 16th is the practice day for anyone that needs to get familiar with the river. I will also be going down to scout which play spots will be best for freestyle.

Saturday. We meet at Fayette Station at 9:30 am to set shuttle. We'll go to the put in, then float to Upper Keaney rapid for boardercross. After doing boardercross heats, we'll break for lunch, then run downriver from Upper Keaney through Fayette Station.

Sunday, we'll start early again, float down to the selected hole, and have freestyle. If nothing is in play to surf at the level the river is running at or if everyone is feeling good and wants to do a second float down the river to have freestyle on Saturday after the two racing events, then people can head out on Saturday night or stay around and play. There is a great waterfall/slide feature further upstream on the New that's good if the water is a little high, or if there is a lot of rain, the Gauley may be releasing, or the middle section of the Meadow is a fun, quick romp. If we have freestyle on Sunday, I hope to be finished with it and off the river by 2 p.m.
