There are others from other parts of Indonesia here on the site. Search for them under members. I came to Bali two years ago to bodyboard the ocean, but ended up not having a chance to board there. For gear, you can rent a board and fins at Kuta Beach, then see about renting/borrowing a pfd and helmet from one of the rafting companies. Finally look for football knee and shin guards at a sports store.

Body Boards are okay for deep rivers. In shallow rivers, they can scrape your hands and fingers up since you hold onto the front of the nose. I remember hearing that there is a rafting company on Bali. Perhaps taking a trip with them to get a feel for the river and seeing if that river is suitable for a bodyboard would be a big step. After that, you can chat with the other Indonesian riverboarders who make their own boards and figure out how. I'm sure there are plenty of smaller creeks through the island waiting to be explored.
