Forward motion, headfirst & horizontal to gravity!

So the local wingsuit cliff is heavily covered in snow, so not much going on in terms of flying during the winter. However, I recently started going to a Crossfit gym and am loving it so I thought I'd share some of my experiences.

f you haven't heard of it already, Crossfit is a strength and conditioning program that is spreading like wildfire across the globe. I was first exposed to Crossfit by a friend a few months ago, and after going to an introductory class, I've been addicted every since. Crossfit is based on 3 principles: constantly varied exercises, high intensity workouts, and functional movements. If you're like me, even if you've been going to the gym for years, you really only do a slight variation of the same exercises week after week. This new style of exercise combines a variety of disciplines (cardio, Olympic power lifting, kettle bells, gymnastics, ect.) into one intense program. In short, CrossFit’s fitness model predicates results based on the following ten physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy. It will make you a better athlete no matter what sport you participate in. I encourage all of you to check out your local Crossfit gym, or at a minimum check out their website. Before long, you become a fire breather too :)

I looked up the crossfit stuff, looks pretty interesting. Cross training and plyometrics etc are the best way to go. And there's nothing like H.I.T. for getting in good shape, period.

Another part of the training I really like is the community vibe it has. You aren't at a gym with a bunch of strangers. You get to know everyone and we all encourage each other by name. It really helps when you need that last little bit to finish a rep or push yourself that much harder.

My friend (girl) does this as well and absolutely loves it because you're interacting with people while working out. Most gyms people won't even say hi passing by. I'm going to check into it, there are 4 crossfit gyms near me, surprisingly. I also start my internal martial arts training soon!

That looks awesome. I'd love to find one of these and have a chance to play with kettles every now and then. I've always wanted to visit The Monkey's Bar if I'm near Madison, WI for all the rings, ropes, ladders, etc. that they have to play and train on.

I just did a promotional cross-fit class here at work. Very tempted to sign up, and I like Neil's comment about the community aspect (one thing I never liked about gyms - little interaction although you're surrounded by people with similar goals).

If you're on the East Coast below the Mason Dixon line, close to it, or coming into the area to board, connect with other boarders. For riverboardering, airboarding at Canaan, and whatever else you do at face level. Mid-Atlantics are welcome too.

Kind of related, has anyone seen one of these... http://2imagine.net/blogger2009/rapidfire2.html What I like about them is their ability to ride rivers when they are far too low to riverboard. I do not own one (yet) but I have been looking at the…

I don't know how often you get this out west.. but in the midwest everyone seems to think stand up paddleboards are riverboards.  I constantly have to correct misperceptions about what a riverboard is.   I don't know how much of that is our sport ju…

I saw part of the movie premier "Haymakers" http://www.kayaksession.com/video186.php this weekend in Hood River and they showed the video footage of this. Turns out the kayaker I was with helped film. The lead-in is a maybe 4' wide slide.
