Forward motion, headfirst & horizontal to gravity!

Unlike most of you in the Northern Hemisphere & currently experiencing cold weather and hopefully snow... you lucky Airboarders!
We, in the Southern Hemisphere, are enjoying warm weather and of course some nice Summer Swell.

Just this afternoon, my bodysurfing buddy, Kieran told me that there is an Article on the Wavescape Site about a local (Cape Town - South Africa) guy who had bodysurfed some of the heaviest waves ever to be taken on without a board.

In August last year Robin Mohr became the first person to bodysurf the infamous Big Wave Spot known as Dungeons. If you don't know much about Dungeons, take a look around the Internet & you will soon see that this is as extreme as it gets. A spot so far off-shore that you can't paddle there, you have to take a boat... a place frequented by Great White Sharks and water so cold that you stand the risk of hypothermia if you stay out too long.

Follow this link to read the epic tale...

Wow, talk about some epic waves! Thanks for sharing that Charl :)

wow! that is a sweet pic and cool story - I'd brave the big waves, then maybe the cold (but ok, probably not), but Great White Sharks? Um...no. That guy's ballsy.

Hi guys, stumbled onto this and another link whilst trying to find a photographer. Charl, are you the mastermind behind what seems to be an extreme-sport website. Fantastic. Nice to hear some random comments about what I do to relieve stress. Think the base jumpers that jump off the Sentinel right near the Dungeons reef are really the guys with the cahoonas.

Hey Robin, cool to 'bump' into you here on TeamFLI, thanks for stopping by. No, I am not the mastermind behind this website, it is actualy Josh Galt (who left a comment, just above yours). TeamFLI (this site) is a social network for people from all over the world who participate in, and enjoy their adrenaline headfirst & horizontal to gravity. (Also check out our site, www.facelevel.com.)
Anyway, cool to see you here, pop in again.

"Headfirst & horizontal!" Never thought of it quite like that. Am looking for a name to use that will help me when approaching potential sponsors. "Bubble Freak" cropped up this weekend, but if you have any ideas be glad to hear.
Josh, thanks for the site. My kind of people. R

Nah, bubble freak doesn't do it justice.... you need to find something better than that :-)
Nice Pic, where is it?
Robin Mohr Comment by Robin Mohr on February 10, 2010 at 2:34am
Place called Danger reef about 100m to the left of Kalk Bay reef. Quite a few people surf Danger Beach, but this wave lands on a slab of rock, so not too many takers for that one. Means when there are guys huddled on a break 100m South of you and another bunch about 80m North, you get to be all alone on this wave.
Ok, not Bubble Freak, then what? Spike and I used FIFO, or Face It Flat Out as a kind of motto, but still don't have the right title. Will crop up in good time. Later

If you're on the East Coast below the Mason Dixon line, close to it, or coming into the area to board, connect with other boarders. For riverboardering, airboarding at Canaan, and whatever else you do at face level. Mid-Atlantics are welcome too.

Kind of related, has anyone seen one of these... http://2imagine.net/blogger2009/rapidfire2.html What I like about them is their ability to ride rivers when they are far too low to riverboard. I do not own one (yet) but I have been looking at the…

I don't know how often you get this out west.. but in the midwest everyone seems to think stand up paddleboards are riverboards.  I constantly have to correct misperceptions about what a riverboard is.   I don't know how much of that is our sport ju…

I saw part of the movie premier "Haymakers" http://www.kayaksession.com/video186.php this weekend in Hood River and they showed the video footage of this. Turns out the kayaker I was with helped film. The lead-in is a maybe 4' wide slide.
