I have yet to go in the water thanks to my schedule but I may have the chance to take a swiftwater rescue course next week on the Green River in Saluda, NC. That seems to be the closest one to me and next week is the only course they're offering it…

This is simply a gathering of riverboarders in the Southeast with some friendly competition thrown in.

- How soon are you moving? I'm still waiting to find out when a kayak race is in Columbia around the first or second weekend of January and if I'll do that or one of the Canaan airboard clinics if the dates conflict. You can get a thick wetsuit and jump in, or just come and watch if it's chilly.

- Millrace Massacre and Iceman Championship is going to be on January 9th. Millrace starts at noon, then a tube race for the top 10 males and top 5 females in Millrace. Then the Iceman championship. If you're in town, come watch the races and hang out afterward. I'll be getting there in the morning to register and practice if I come. I always wait till a few days before just to make sure it isn't going to be stupid cold.

- Yes, when they changed the Columbia weather forecast from a high of 53 down to 33, that put it in the stupid cold category. It's a fun event, but I can just as much training from the comfort of a heated pool at the YMCA. Have fun in DC and at Canaan if you're able to make it.

I saw part of the movie premier "Haymakers" http://www.kayaksession.com/video186.php this weekend in Hood River and they showed the video footage of this. Turns out the kayaker I was with helped film. The lead-in is a maybe 4' wide slide.
