"I tried them many years ago and they're worthless unfortunately, the idea is great, but they're too floppy to give any power and the hydraulics do whip them around like a flag in the wind. I do like the concept for sure, and I had a number…"

"Ian boogie boards are fine. They are pretty chill about things and FLI is running the riverboarding event. NO LEASHES though during races. You won't need it anyway, not going to lose your board. They don't even have a SUP leash rule…"

Riverboarders held captive in Guatemala

Posted on January 29, 2012 at 8:30pm 3 Comments

Two riverboarders were recently held captive for over 7 hours by angry indigenous Mayans in the interior of Guatemala.

Riverboarders Josh Galt and Max Baldetty, along with their native translator and the other paddlers in their group, were threatened with beatings, hanging, and burning by the mob.

The natives were taking a stand protecting their land and rivers, and have fought fiercely over the years against dams and mining projects in the area (to no avail). …

Airboarding At Hoodoo - Lay Down & Be A Rockstar For A Day

Posted on January 20, 2010 at 4:40am 2 Comments

Peter_scenic_1024 Docta P and I went to Hoodoo to go Airboarding recently. It was a 180 degree difference from the last time I was there 2 years ago (seriously, TWO years? Where'd the time go!).

Let me set the scene:

- Hoodoo is in Oregon, about 2 hours from Portland, where I used to reside and where Face Level started.

- It's the only…

Empathizing with "spongers" & the best training for riverboarding

Posted on May 26, 2009 at 1:30am 3 Comments

So I went bodyboarding today in Dominical, Costa Rica. It's a well-known surf town in Costa, as you can surf pretty much every day, year round. It's not always big, but there's always waves, somewhere in the area. And when it does go off, it's huge.

I like to surf. The stand-up kind. I kinda learned how during my time living in San Diego, and have gotten better down here.

I like to swim, too, and go out and attempt to bodysurf. Dom isn't really a good place for that, as… Continue

2009 Face Level Riverboarding Race Season Is Here!

Posted on April 3, 2009 at 6:00pm 2 Comments

In exactly 2 weeks, riverboarders will descend upon Kernville, California and the 2009 FLRC races will begin!

I'm excited about this for several reasons.

1. The riverboarding industry is growing, and more and more people are experiencing the beauty of whitewater at "face level". Rafting is cool, kayaking is cooler, but to feel every nuance of the river, every current and hydraulic and bit of power the flow contains,… Continue

XSport y El Rio Reventazon, plus Athlete Profile on Neil Amonson!

Posted on March 21, 2009 at 1:00am 2 Comments

I'd post a blog or two to go along with Rochelle's Costa Rica video recap, but instead I decided to write ten gazillion words for XSport's latest issue! I think it might be the longest article ever submitted to a magazine editor of a sports magazine, haha.

Editor Chris Headland is so thoughtful though, he never complains...although I'm sure as he scrolled, and scrolled, and scrolled some more he probably had some silent expletives going on (thanks for being cool… Continue

Hi Josh, I normally would but I had to kill this fish and generally the GW's don't venture out this far (45miles out). Pierre

Yes Josh, I plan on taking the area by storm if I can. Getting in shape and stepping everything up. There are many creeks & rivers in the area that I'm going to see if a board can be run down. I will be going up to Maine to run some of the big water up there. Thanks for all you do for the sport.

Thanks Josh! I was supposed to be coming out for it but it turns out I'm going to be out of town for work. My buddy and I have been out there a couple of times to go airboarding and always have a blast! I'm disappointed I'm not going to be able to make it but hopefully I'll be able to come out for something in the future Great site man!
