Liz Arnold said… Bummer that you won't be around NC during the Tuck Fest races, however, there is a nice creeking run in western, NC that has a release on Saturday April 6th. It's about a 4 hour drive from Charlotte, but a good piece of water. You can check it out here:

We normally don't run the upper 7 miles because it is bony, choked full of trees and bushes ( due to the river bed being de-watered for over 75 years), and only has a few good rapids. We put in around mile 7 at the Forest Service bridge and run the final two miles where it's steep and clear of bushes - doing laps on this stretch to our hearts' content.
I wouldn't recommend taking a bodyboard down the Cheoah. It is definitely pure creeking. I have an old plastic riverboard that you could borrow if you decide to do it.
