Forward motion, headfirst & horizontal to gravity!

Hey everybody; Rob Larkham, I know you're out there (Alex told me to shoot you a line).  Anyways... I'm a long time riverboarder, but new two the area.  I'm up in Killington, VT.  Picked up a copy of "Let it Rain", and I think this place shows a lot of promise.  There's a bunch of park 'n' play waves; I'm thinkin' Surf Comp, and there are a few short runs, like a mile long, with trailside service, so I'm thinkin' boardercross with mutltiple heats.  People are saying their kids are getting into it.  I'm at school at Green Mtn. College.  Some folks here saw the travel channel thing and they're are stoked to check it out.  They got to get out there.  I got to get out there.  I'm waiting for the season to open up, literally, everything is frozen now, but it won't be long before things start movin'.  I have a stash of board coming out in a month or so.  I saw some chatter here about guide services in Maine.  Are there any others?  Either way It would be good to get some experienced riders together and hit some rivers.  Of course, anybody's always welcome to come learn.

Snow, snow, snow,

then let it spring.

Until then...

Max, I'm alive and well in Western Mass. I have been away from the computer for a couple months. My wife said I was spending too much time online and not with her. I stepped away from Facebook as well as other social sites. However, I'm excited to get out in the spring. I need a new 7mm suit but that shouldn't be a problem. For the most part i stick to Western mass but would not mind some trips North. I'm working 70-80 hours a weeks so need to plan ahead. I run the Dryway in Northwestern Ma which is part of the Deerfield River. About 3.5 miles of class 3-4. Fun run and multiple runs can be made in a day. It has a few fun surf waves. Stay in touch and we will see if we can hook up. I'm an old guy (43) :) so not sure how much racing or competition I'm looking for.

Sounds great. I realized after writing that what I was may have come off a bit 'gung-ho'. It just seemed that becasue of the shorter length and easy access to a lot of the runs up here, that they sort lend themselves to competition I'm really just interested in running rivers.
Also, I thought it was you (Rob) that is a member of a swiftwater rescue team? I'd be interested to know more about that. Or if anyone knows of any rec. companies in the noreast looking for guides.
One final note, and this is applies to the whole community. Don't let age decide whether or not you can compete. Look at Peter C. he's in his 50's and he's the national champ.

Max, this past summer I didn't let my age dictate whether or not I competed. In my earlier days I was a three time state champ wrestler. Well, at 42 I decided to hit the mat again. I tore out my recently reconstructed shoulder and need surgery again and don't think I'll ever do that again. I will NEVER slow down I just need to approach things at my own speed and not be pushed by the urge to compete. PLUS, I hate to lose. :)

As far as the Swift Water Rescue goes, I'm a volunteer firefighter and with that I'm part of a swift water team and a high angle rescue team. I don't excel at either but am passionate about being safe.

Hey,

I'm going to be over in PA in the summer (June to September). I don't do winters and NZ is gonna be far too cold!. I will mostly be working as a climbing instructor, but I'd love to get out and do some rivers too. Give me a shout if you're keen. Even if you're not do you have any ideas for good rivers in/near PA to run. I will be in the Northeast of the state, in the Poconos Mountains.

Cheers

Twig

If you're on the East Coast below the Mason Dixon line, close to it, or coming into the area to board, connect with other boarders. For riverboardering, airboarding at Canaan, and whatever else you do at face level. Mid-Atlantics are welcome too.

Kind of related, has anyone seen one of these... http://2imagine.net/blogger2009/rapidfire2.html What I like about them is their ability to ride rivers when they are far too low to riverboard. I do not own one (yet) but I have been looking at the…

I don't know how often you get this out west.. but in the midwest everyone seems to think stand up paddleboards are riverboards.  I constantly have to correct misperceptions about what a riverboard is.   I don't know how much of that is our sport ju…
