Now that I hopefully have your attention.... check out this link to a YouTube movie trailer for an upcoming Whitewater Kayaking Video entitled "Dream Result", which is mind-blowing and sets the bar to vertigo-inducing heights.
I think watching riverboarders charge those falls would be pretty damn exciting! The freestyle kayaking mixed with creeking shown in the video is pretty ridiculous.
Personally I'm not ready to start charging 100' waterfalls on a riverboard yet, but I'm down to watch and film others doing it ;)
However I'm looking forward to pushing the envelope even more next season on the rivers in Northern California especially in the big water/surfing realm! Looking foward to the El Nino year!!!
The thing is, those guys didn't start out running 100' waterfalls. Probably started small and pushed it from there. Alex, I reckon one of the areas that can facilitate more exciting freestyle in Riverboarding is board design.... you're well-positioned to break some new things open in that realm.
I´m with you Charl. The surfing that the likes of Jon Imhoff and the serious fun boys do in the old school videos is sick. ´Would be great to see people trying new stuff and pushing barriers on the free style front. Board design coul be th way forward
I do like kayak freestyle, but I feel that one mistake they made that has limited the appeal of freestyle kayaking to the masses is having their own names for tricks instead of using what was already established in skate, bike, and snow. The public could follow it a little more if a front flip was called a front flip instead of a loop.
I'm ready to start pushing some falls, but I prefer to add 10 feet at a time and work my way up. Still waiting for two 30 footers in different parts of Tennessee to get enough water to run, but haven't seen them running in the almost 2 years that I've been back home in the states.
We have 2 SUP boards, A Uli 11' and a sevlor. you can get the sevlor at poolcenter.com for about $450 delivered. The newer uli models are light and better shaped. The sevlor is a little more mattress feeling, but has the advantage of removable fins,…
If you're on the East Coast below the Mason Dixon line, close to it, or coming into the area to board, connect with other boarders. For riverboardering, airboarding at Canaan, and whatever else you do at face level. Mid-Atlantics are welcome too.
Kind of related, has anyone seen one of these... http://2imagine.net/blogger2009/rapidfire2.html
What I like about them is their ability to ride rivers when they are far too low to riverboard. I do not own one (yet) but I have been looking at the…
MY!!!!! I almost made this EXACT POST yesterday. It irritates me to no end! Read my blog about it. Look at the date! Two days ago. Too funny!
I think it's because of all the hype SUP'ing has received in the media; people get a little glimpse from so…
Friends Don't Let Friends SUP !!!!!
Just kidding, it actually looks pretty fun on inflatables in the river, but in the ocean.......? I'll stick with my 6.0 Quad Fish Shortboard.
I don't know how often you get this out west.. but in the midwest everyone seems to think stand up paddleboards are riverboards. I constantly have to correct misperceptions about what a riverboard is.
I don't know how much of that is our sport ju…
I saw part of the movie premier "Haymakers" http://www.kayaksession.com/video186.php this weekend in Hood River and they showed the video footage of this. Turns out the kayaker I was with helped film. The lead-in is a maybe 4' wide slide.
