Skeleton is headfirst, no brakes, sliding down the hard-packed ice at 80mph!
While it has only been an Olympic sport for a few years, the sport itself has ancestry in sledding and tobogganing from over 100 years ago.
The Vancouver Olympics will feature Skeleton sliders on February 18th and 19th, which leads right up to the big Airboarding weekend in Switzerland and Norway! (Airboarding is a descendant of Skeleton.)
There are two individual skeleton events in the Olympic Games: one for men and one for women. Both events consist of four heats held over two days, timed electronically to 0.01 seconds. The individual with the lowest combined time wins.
