Forward motion, headfirst & horizontal to gravity!

Time: March 17, 2012 all day
Location: Ocoee river ( middle section )
Event Type: get, together
Organized By: Kevin Yount
Latest Activity: Mar 18, 2012
Winter seems to be ending early, and the opening Ocoee river release for the 2012 season falls on St. Patrick's Day. With a projected forecast of 71 degrees Fahrenheit and sunny, things should be nice. We'll meet at the private boater take out at 11:00 am and shuttle up to the put in. Should be a great crowd at Hell Hole to watch some surfing at the end of the run. Finally, since it's St. Patrick's Day, Kevin has brewed some Irish Stout so enjoy a celebratory bottle post run.
Comment by Tyler Mayhew on March 11, 2012 at 2:19am Sounds like fun but too much good stuff running up here to go do the Ocoee... got out on the LBS today for the first run of the year -- if you head up to the Cheat for Cheatfest or up to the New/Gauley this spring let me know.
Tyler, I'm definitely planning to head to Gauley / New country over the next few months. May tends to always be a great rainfall month.
Comment by Aaron Smith on March 12, 2012 at 12:44am I'll be there! Thinking of driving out early and camping friday night. Anyone have info on local campgrounds?
I like Thunder Rock campground. It's just a bit below the Olympic section on the Upper Ocoee. There's also a peaceful campground between Andrews and Murphy. Count me in, I'd rather camp Friday night too instead of trying to go there and back in one day.
Comment by Al Heim on March 14, 2012 at 2:38am Thanks for the invite. Unfortunately I am on call that weekend and will not be able to go. Have the last weekend of March open as the swift water rescue course was cancelled, so if your planning any trips that weekend let me know.
Comment by Liz Arnold on March 17, 2012 at 6:02am I'm trying to make it out east this fall for a little while, so I won't be able to make this, but it sounds like a blast! Have fun!
Liz, great small group, good weather, and everyone ran every rapid clean. Yeah, save those vacay days for Gauley season : )
