Event Description

Face Level is proud to be a sponsor of the third annual 'Eddy Flower Vertical Challenge'!

This is a contest of endurance, skill and mental determination. The competition is simple: you and your riverboarding buddies board as many runs as you can endure for 32 days and, to give your paddling purpose, the challenge involves raising funds for young adults with cancer. At the end of the event, the team in each division with the most vertical feet is crowned champion.

* The Vertical Challenge opens at sunrise May 15 and closes
sunset June 15.
* Open to all paddlers (kayakers, rafters, canoers,
riverboarders), from all countries, of all skill levels.
* Compete for prizes in one of six divisions (Open, Class V,
Class IV, Class III, Weekend Warrior, Womens) that best
match your team's skill level.
* Donations raised go to First Descents a kayaking camp for
young adults with cancer.

This competition is open to international competitors. In order to compete you must first complete this form for each run you wish to include.

FUNDRAISER
EddyFlower has partnered with First Descents to raise money for a great cause. What better reason to riverboard when every kick you make raises money for young adults with cancer! First Descents offers young adults with cancer outdoor experiences that will forever change their lives. The 2007 & 2008 EddyFlower Vertical Challenge competitors raised over $34,000 and sent 35 youth to kayak camp.

The goal is for each member on each team to raise as many donations as possible during the event for First Descents. All donations raised go directly to First Descents to provide cancer survivors with a free, week long kayak camp in Colorado.

Please make all donation checks payable to "First Descents" and mail to 10679 West Cooper Place Littleton CO 80127 attention Brian Copanas.

DIVISIONS
Choose from six divisions that best match your team’s skills. The team in each division with the most vertical feet is crowned champion. The individual with the most vertical feet will be crowned as the overall individual vertical champion. Check out the runs eligible in your division. If we are missing any runs please let us know and we'd be happy to get them uploaded.

• Open: all runs are eligible in this division. The team in this division with most Class I-V vertical feet wins.
• Class V Only: only Class V (V-, V, V+) runs are eligible in this division. The team in this division with the most Class V-, V, V+ vertical feet wins. (division may be removed if we don't get at least 3 teams registered)
• Class IV: only Class I-IV runs are eligible in this division. The team in this division with the most Class I-IV vertical feet wins.
• Class III: only Class I-III runs are eligible in this division. The team in this division with the most Class I-III vertical feet wins.
• Womens: all runs are eligible in this division. The team in this division with most Class I-V vertical feet wins.
• Weekend Warrior: all runs eligible in this division. The ten best days as a team will be totaled to determine which team has the most vertical feet. The team in this division with the most vertical feet wins.

lets get one of the riverboarding teams to win the whole thing
Kevin Yount Comment by Kevin Yount on February 22, 2009 at 8:20am
might be a good idea if all the riverboard teams compete in the main category this year, simply so we don't miss anyone's totals because they're buried down in the weekend warrior division, etc.
Josh Galt Comment by Josh Galt on March 17, 2009 at 12:45am
Yes to both of your comments! Just compete in the "Open" category.

Also, please sign up teams everybody if you're planning on being part of this event. Just like last year it will count big points toward the overall FLRC's, and remember, international teams ARE ok this year! Just download the form linked above to fill in the gps coordinates of your put-in and take-out so they can figure out the run.

So Indonesia, South America, Malaysia, Scandinavia, Europe, South Africa and everybody else who is not in the dead of winter during May / June, come join the fun and compete!
